My vision is my ambition

June 05, 2020

Education, General

I have reached my golden years asking myself how well I have fulfilled my vision and my mission just to conclude that I have been confusing vision with ambition, and quite frequently. We can say that this happened -or happens-, not only to myself, but also to many people, because the border between those is not easy to differentiate.

We would need to ask ourselves if having a nice house, a doctorate degree, a successful practice, are just ambitions.

We would also need to ask ourselves if our mission is merely to achieve those ambitions.

So, we may think that we really know what our vision and mission in our lives are, but the reality is that they will become crystal clear when we know what our vocation is.

We will simply fail as teacher, comedian, nurse, or engineer if we lack vocation. It is a failure because, in spite of collecting achievements, deep and genuine feelings of fulfillment and joy will be missing. The vocation is what really supports our vision and mission in life, what makes us endure the setbacks, and what give us the strength to continue doing what we are doing in a noble, happy and righteous way. Let us follow our vocation to do what we were called to do. It is our purpose in life.

You may be too in the golden years, or perhaps you are far from them. It does not matter. It is never too late to review our vision and our mission in life, and if not for ourselves, for our children.
